As technology continues to evolve, so does its capacity to drive meaningful social impact. This was powerfully demonstrated during the recent TRANSMIXR webinar, “Tech for Good – Immersive Tools for DEI” hosted by our partners from Sparknews.
The session brought together innovators and changemakers to explore how immersive technologies such as XR, VR, and AR, can support and enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) across a wide range of sectors.
Throughout the webinar, speakers shared both practical applications and strategic insights into how these tools can help amplify underrepresented voices, spark empathy, and inspire collective action. Tessa Pierre and Lola Brena from Sparknews, opened up pathways for participants to creatively engage with immersive media, showcasing how such technologies are already being used in social and environmental initiatives. Their approach emphasised the importance of storytelling and experiential learning in driving inclusive outcomes.
These themes were deepened through the perspectives of Juliette Vauchez (Immersion) and Dr. Sarune Savickaite (University of Exeter), who explored the ethical dimensions and systemic opportunities presented by immersive tech. Together, the webinar spotlighted the value of accessibility, co-creation with marginalised communities, and critical reflection in the design and implementation of these tools.
From hands-on examples to broader strategic reflection, the session made one thing clear: immersive technology has the potential to be more than just a medium, it can be a catalyst for equity. When used thoughtfully, it places empathy and inclusion at the heart of innovation.
