In this blog, we dive into the diverse and impactful Use Cases of TRANSMIXR project that’s been pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in the creative and cultural sector. Through a series of interviews with key representatives of each Use Case, we’ll explore the unique challenges addressed, the innovative tools developed along the way, and the progress made in turning complex problems into actionable solutions. Below, you can read an interview with the “Newsroom Toolbox” Use Case team.
How would you describe the current status of the “Newsroom Toolbox” Use Case?
Regarding the TRANSMIXR “Newsroom toolbox” the first testing phase of the AI and XR tools has ended. In the toolbox we have:
- The News monitoring tool (webLyzard)
- The video formatting tool (Certh)
- The text formatting tool (Story Pact)
- The 3D volumetric tools
All the tools (apart from Story Pact, which will be tested in January 2025) have been tested by Agence France-Presse, RTV Slovenia journalists and Sparknews media partners.
All the feedback we got from the “testers” was forwarded to our technical partners who are now adapting the tools accordingly.
Once they will be ready to be tested again, we’ll do a second round of testing.
In parallel, the testers have also filled-in evaluation questionnaires which Vrije Universiteit Brussel is compiling.
Regarding the Planica XRperience, the production phase is over. We are now entering the evaluation phase. The full XRperience will be shown to Vrije Universiteit Brussel students, who will evaluate it in the next weeks. RTV Slovenia also wants to demonstrate it to its reporters, but needs some technical help to set it up.
What are the key goals or milestones you’re aiming to achieve in the next 3 months?
In the next 3 months we expect the technical improvements of the different TRANSMIXR tools to be made so we can launch the second phase of tests. We also want to have a clearer exploitation strategy for the tools we are developing.
Looking back at this journey, what was the most challenging phase of developing your use case?
Making the tools fulfill the newsroom needs is an ongoing challenge!
As we revisit this project in the future, what is the one major outcome or achievement you’d like to see for your use case?
Our aim is the same from the beginning: develop tools that will help journalists be more efficient in the news gathering and production phases as well as creating new types of immersive contents in an easy and affordable way. The tools and scenarios we have tested are all promising, and might just prove that yes, there is room for immersive storytelling in journalism.
