A Productive and Inspirational Gathering
The 5th General Assembly (GA) meeting took place in the beautiful city of Ljubljana, Slovenia on October 8th and 9th, 2024, hosted by our partners from RTV Slovenia. This two-day event was not just about project updates, but an opportunity for all project members to come together, reflect on our shared journey, and prepare for the final review. It was a moment to pause and look at how far we’ve come, while also facing the challenges ahead.
Before diving into the hard work ahead, we attended this year’s Avdiofestival Slovenija, hosted by our RTV partners. We contribute to the event through a roundtable discussion and a workshop focused on the use of immersive technologies in media production and distribution.
Our partners—Niall Murray, Marie Hospital, Trevor Ó Clochartaigh, Arno Verhofstadt, and Louise Hallström—took center stage, sparking engaging conversations during the “Challenges of Using Immersive Technologies in the Media” panel and leading the “Shaping the Media with XR and AI: Exploring the Future of News and Beyond with Transmixr” workshop. The discussions delved into the critical balance of embracing new technologies while considering the ethical and professional implications necessary to maintain media trust. And as Transmixr we are proud to be part of this ongoing dialogue. This year’s Avdiofestival attracted over 2,000 attendees, offering them the chance to participate in 20 diverse events.
Kicking off the meeting, Niall Murray, the project coordinator from TUS, reviewed the project’s achievements to date and outlined the goals for the final review. This set the tone for the rest of the meeting, reminding us of the collective effort that has driven the project so far. We were then led through a Working Session on Capacity Building by our partners from BFCT and Weblyzard. Each Use Case was then presented, with updates from the teams working on the 4 Use Cases: performing arts, museum experience, news media, and news broadcast, covering Use Case updates, planning, and exploitation strategies This is often one of the most creative parts of our meetings, where we get to see new tools, technical demonstrations, and presentations that bring our ideas to life, showcasing the true potential of the project’s innovations.
On the second day, the meeting continued with a Project Management Board session, focusing on the importance of collaboration for successful deliverables submission. A key session on Diversity & Inclusion followed, led by partners from Spark, where the team worked on an action plan to ensure the deliverables reflect these values. Partners from F6S provided an update on Communication and Dissemination activities, followed by a session on New Workflows, Formats, and Standards presented by partners from HSLU. The final session of the day covered Architecture, presented by partners from CWI and IMM.
To wrap up, the final parallel sessions sparked in-depth discussions and cross-collaboration across work packages. These two days didn’t just serve as a progress check — they ignited new ideas, strengthened our teamwork, and empowered us to tackle challenges together, driving innovation forward.
We look forward to the next GA meeting in Paris!
The Ljubljana GA meeting has once again demonstrated the power of collective effort to make meaningful progress together.
