TUS showcases TRANSMIXR technologies at public Engineering ExpoEvent in Ireland

An Engineering EXPO 2023 took place at the campus of Technological University of the Shannon on April 28th.  The annual celebration of the latest achievements of its students and researchers attracted a diverse audience. Apart from the general public, Industry representatives came to take a sneak peek at the latest innovation and get to meet the researchers behind them. Younger students came looking for inspiration as to where their future academic career path could potentially lead.

In the atrium of the Engineering Building , the researchers from the lab of Dr. Niall Murray (TRANSMIXR’s coordinator) set up their demos showcasing different applications of virtual and augmented reality. Visitors were treated to a presentation of a VR environment that enables Mechanical engineers to quickly visualise their CAD models in real scale; they could try solving the Rubik’s cube with the help of AR glasses which showed them visual instructions overlaid on top of the real World.

They could also see how a VR could potentially help children with ASD develop social skills.

The TRANSMIXR team was also there, and we took our guests on a journey back in time to have a chat with Hanso Idzerda – a Dutch radio broadcasting pioneer in his studio. The virtual reality environment shown was a demonstration of one of the púotential uses of the TRANSMIXR technology for culture and heritage.

Our small XR wonderland was buzzing with visitors and inspiring conversations all day long. Many questions were answered, but also new ones arose. And that’s what a true industry and academic collaboration should be about!
