At the heart of the Transmixr project is collaboration as it provides opportunities for partners to learn from each other. In March the TUS team from Athlone in Ireland visited TG4 headquarters in Connemara to share experiences and discuss possibilities relevant to the Transmixr initiative.
TG4 is the national Irish language broadcaster in Ireland and Director of Operations & HR, Trevor Ó Clochartaigh and Director of Technology Neil Keaveney outlined the work being done and the technology employed to serve TG4’s worldwide audience. The TUS representatives Niall Murray, Ronan Flynn, Agnieszka Kapuscinska, Grace Dinan and Conor Keighrey toured the studios, control rooms and broadcast output areas and were given an understanding of the workflows and technology used for linear and non-linear transmission.
They also visited the newsroom and were given an overview of the current approach to gathering news, editing and presenting a bulletin. This offered the opportunity for us all to discuss the opportunities for the “Newsroom of the Future”, which is a key use case being examined in the Transmixr project. Questions around the possibilities and practicalities of utilising AI/AR/VR technology to enhance and improve the output were raised and discussed as well.
The TUS team even got to try their hand at presenting the weather forecast, which is always a highlight of any visit to TG4. Let’s just say that the outlook is sunny on all fronts!
Key to both the TG4 and TUS teams participating in Transmixr is getting to know one another, sharing expertise and experience and building networks to support mutual collaboration and co-operation. This visit certainly established a great baseline in that regard and that augurs well for the future.
